Day of the Seafarer – June 2014
As is done every year, this year 25th June 2014 is the day dedicated to the Seafarer under the auspices of the International Maritime Organisation..
Why should we dedicate a day to the Seafarer you may ask..??
- The relief that doctors get when they have saved the life of some one at the hospital using that imported life saving equipment and medicines;
- The happiness you see on your child’s face when he/she plays on the PlayStation or Xbox;
- The emotions you feel when communicating with your loved ones overseas via video conferencing installed on your laptop or computer;
- The pride you feel in a crop well harvested in your farm using that latest equipment manufactured overseas;
is all because these goods were shipped from somewhere to somewhere via sea..
The seafarers are the people who ensure that these goods reach us safe and sound.. They are the people that operate the ships that carry our cargoes from place to place allowing us to live the lifestyle that we do..
We have a 90% reason to be thankful to the Seafarers.. Why 90%..?? Because that is the % of the global trade that is handled by sea and without this trade, the global economy will grind to a halt..
So now do you see why we should thank the seafarers..??
So, lets all felicitate the work that these seafarers are doing, sometimes at the risk of their own lives.. All you need to do is participate in Day of the Seafarer campaign for 2014 by clicking on this link..
