Pre-advice at Durban Container Terminals (Pier 1 & Pier 2) – Clarification

Hi all, further to my previous post http://shippinginsouthafrica.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/navis-pre-advice-go-live-at-durban-container-terminals-pier1-and-pier2/ , please see below update received from Transnet Port Terminals

10 February 2012

Dear Client

PRE-ADVICE AT DURBAN CONTAINER TERMINALS (PIER 1 AND PIER2)

We refer to the letter distributed to clients on 1 February 2012, re the postponement of the enforcement of the mandatory requirement of pre-advice to 1 March 2012. It has come to our attention that there may have been a misinterpretation of the contents of the letter. This is an attempt to clarify.

We would like to advise that Pre-advice has been in operation from 1 February 2012 as planned. The enforcement of the mandatory requirement (refusal of access to the terminal to those trucks carrying containers not pre-advised) was postponed to 1 March 2012. This means that trucks not pre-advised would not be turned away during the month of February. It does not mean that those stakeholders currently pre-advising should stop doing so, it was purely a means of assisting those stakeholders who may have been experiencing some difficulty with this transition, eg. over-boarder trucks. It is therefore requested that all clients currently pre-advising should continue to do so as this will go a long way in mitigating any negative impact which may arise come 1 March 2012.

Mandatory pre-advice will be enforced from 1 March 2012, this means that any truck carrying an export container to the Durban Container Terminals (Pier 1 and Pier 2) without being pre-advised, will not be granted access to the terminal.

We trust this clarifies the matter.

Kind regards

Velile Dube
